There is a myth that one neighbor’s radon test results can give the surrounding home’s an accurate feel for what their radon level is. But guess what? That’s not true. If your neighbor has a radon test and it comes back positive, the good news is that their results don’t mean you have radon too. On the flip side, if your neighbor’s home shows low levels of radon that doesn’t mean you’re in the clear.
Radon levels inside any area depend on the composition of the soil in that individual plot of land and the porousness of that soil, and that is why neighbors often have very different radon test result readings. Different construction methods used in building your home and your neighbor’s house can also help keep you safe from radon.
