We’ve all experienced that heartbreaking moment when the lightbulb stem gets stuck inside of the light fixture. No need to panic! if you have a potato in your pantry, then your light fixture is saved, and you can utilize an easy home maintenance hack. Cut the potato in half and press it gently into the glass shards to get a good grip on it. Next, turn the potato counterclockwise (just like you’re unscrewing a regular, unbroken bulb), and before you know it, you’ll have the stem removed. Discard the potato, and wait until the socket is completely dry before replacing the bulb.

A broken bulb doesn’t mean that the fixture is also broken. Once you know how to safely remove the stem of a lightbulb, you won’t have to worry about discarding an otherwise perfectly good lamp again!
