Repainting old doors can bring new life to your home. It’s a relatively easy and inexpensive home improvement project that can make a big difference to the aesthetic value of your house. Painting a door while it’s still on the hinges, however, can be difficult and messy. The best way to paint a door is to remove it from the hinges, take it outside or to a workshop, and attach it to sawhorses.
Once you detach your door, drive a 3/8-inch by four-inch lag screw into the center of its top edge. Then, put two near the bottom corners. Don’t drive the screws all the way down; leave enough exposed to set the door on two sawhorses. Remove the doorknob and other hardware, balance the door between two sawhorses, and start painting. Flip the door over and paint the other side; you don’t need to wait for the first side to dry.
